Promega Spring Art Showcase Presents “Eternal Cycles"
Madison, WI USA. (February 18, 2025)
The Promega Spring Art Showcase, “Eternal Cycles,” presents a profound exploration of art’s ability to capture the timeless and the transient. Featuring Sharon Kilfoy’s evocative new series, Disintegrations, alongside the historically significant Mark Jacobs Collection, “Eternal Cycles” invites viewers to reflect on cycles of transformation, impermanence and renewal.
The Mark Jacobs Collection
Mark Jacobs (1951-2022) was a world-renowned collector and expert on color photography, amassing one of the most comprehensive private collections of early photographic processes. This exhibit highlights the evolution of early color photography.
Selections on display will include:
- Fred Payne Clatworthy’s autochromes of the American Southwest, including those published in National Geographic Magazine between 1923 and 1930
- Autochromes by pioneering photographers such as the Lumière Brothers, Alfred Stieglitz and Helen Messinger Murdoch.
- Rare examples of Kromograms, Dufaycolor and other early color techniques that laid the foundation for modern photography.
Sharon Kilfoy: Disintegrations
In her latest series, Madison-based artist Sharon Kilfoy combines Fabrications—fabric collages crafted from clothing and personal items—with layers of paint, graffiti and intentional destruction. These dynamic works explore the Buddhist concept of disintegration, evoking a world on the cusp of transformation.
Renowned for her community-driven mural projects, Kilfoy brings her expertise in collaboration and her deeply philosophical approach to this series, offering viewers a meditation on resilience, impermanence and the cyclical nature of existence.
